The Hyderabad City Armed Reserve Police was originally called as "AFGHAN CITY POLICE”. It was established in the year 1932 and stationed at Petlaburj Police lines, Hyderabad. In the year 1957, its name was renamed to ” CITY ARMED RESERVE”.

Functionally the CAR Police consists of General, Special operations, Security and Logistics groups.
It is the Armed force reserve of the Hyderabad City Police.
Sanctioned strength of this unit is 5402 while the actual strength is 3933.
Providing Force to Guards & Escorts to Union/State Protectees, IAS Officers, IPS Officers, Government Establishments, Courts, Hospitals, Consulate General Offices/Residences, UPSC Confidential Meetings and all types of Exam papers.
Deploying Platoons (Men & Women) daily to zones for various Law & Order bandobust duties.
